The next stage is to eliminate any “irritable factors” which maybe the underlying cause of the TrP and any secondary “Triggers” which may be associated. This is sometimes not as easy as it first sounds, as there are many, many causes of TrP’s. Chronic cases will often get a cascade effect as “active” TrP’s can cause any trigger point along its referral zone to also become active over time, (satellite TrP’s). This is one reason why long term chronic pain sufferers start to get more wide spread symptoms of pain and dysfunction. Once the TrP’s have been eradicated and any irritable factors” addressed, patients are often given a rehab program which involves stretches to target tight shortened muscles and strengthening to target weak, elongated muscle, core stability will also be addressed. This is sometimes a matter of a few simple exercises or it might involve starting a clinic palates program to resolve more complicated or wide spread issues. Remember long term incorrect holding or movement patterns won’t go away overnight, they need a comprehensive treatment and rehab program if you are to get long term relief!
